City Park-And-Ride 'Delayed'
There's to be three month delay in commissioning a new south Belfast parking scheme designed for motorists to use while taking buses on into the city.
While South Belfast Alliance MLA, Anna Lo (pictured) has said she is pleased that work on the park-and-ride facility in the Cairnshill area is almost completed, she also called on the Department for Regional Development to get it up and running as soon after completion as possible.
The site, which will be able to hold 730 vehicles, is situated on the A24.
"This service will hopefully help get more people to take the bus into Belfast and ease congestion on our roads," said Ms Lo.
"I would like to see this facility being used as soon after completion as possible and I would call on the Department to do all they can to ensure this happens.
"Park-and-ride schemes are an important aspect of promoting the use of public transport and I am pleased to see that work on this project is almost completed."
However, while due to be completed in June, the site will not become operational until the autumn.
A Department for Regional Development spokesperson said the procurement of the bus services and further bus priority measures needed to be finalised first.
There are a number of other park and rides in the city. The first was Northside which opened in 1995.
Since then, three other sites have been built: Blacks Road, Eastside and Ravenscroft.
Other sites situated outside Belfast include Sprucefield and Dunsilly.
