Lakeland Forum Gets £1m Boost

A major Co Fermanagh leisure complex has been given a makeover with the first part of Enniskillen's Lakeland Forum refurbishment just completed.

McAleer and Teague, of Dromore carried out the contract which was designed by architects Mullarkey and Pedersen - who also designed the Waterways Ireland building on the opposite side of the River Erne.

The £1.3m initial phase of the refurbishment took over a year to complete and is now ending with the painting of the entire outside of the building.

The introduction of energy efficiency measures, additional facilities for disabled users, a new viewing gallery for the swimming pool, new reception and office facilities and a revamp of the Erne room and main hall were part of the scheme.

Later, phase two of the work will see a refurbishment of the dry changing rooms while phase three will see an extension and re-equipping of the fitness room.

Phase four will see the creation of a full-size floodlit third-generation football pitch.

Phase two is said to be starting shortly with around £400,000 still being spent.
