Teenager dies in explosion in Coleraine

The police have said they are carrying out an investigation into the death of a man after an explosion in County Londonderry.

The man who died was named on Friday, January 4, as William Moore Campbell, aged 19, a Protestant from Winston Way in Coleraine.

The teenager died after the large pipe bomb blew up at a derelict house in an alleyway at 20 Winston Way in the Heights area of Coleraine, County Londonderry, on Thursday January 3.

An ambulance crew attended the critically injured man but he died at the scene.

Police are investigating the theory that a nearby derelict house may have been used by paramilitaries as a store for explosives.

Army bomb disposal experts are continuing to examine a second suspicious object found nearby.

Several neighbouring houses have been evacuated as part of a follow-up security operation. (AMcE)
