Larne Co-op Redevelopment Approved
There's to be a new food superstore built in Co Antrim as the Co-op rebuilds an existing outlet.
Construction jobs and many permanent positions are to flow from the NI Environment Minister Edwin Poot's decision to give the green light for the development in Larne.
The multi-million pound project will see the Co-operative Group redevelop its existing food store in the town into a retail superstore. Upon completion, the move will also see the creation of around 200-300 full and part times jobs.
"This development will help to regenerate Larne town centre and provide much needed better quality retail facilities to local people," said Minister Poots.
"Furthermore, it will provide job security during the current economic climate.
"This multi-million pound investment will bring with it around 100 construction jobs and hundreds more retail jobs.
"It is yet another indication of the confidence investors have in Northern Ireland.
"The new superstore will be built in the town centre with new access points via the Circular Road. The retail facility will more than double in size providing some 5,600 sq metres of floorspace and will incorporate car parking facilities."
The department is currently consulting the district council on its opinion to approve the application.
