CIPR Journalism Awards In Full

Deric Henderson of the Press Association has been awarded the Journalist of the Year title

The Belfast Telegraph lifted the title for Coca-Cola CIPR Newspaper of the Year, and the BBC's Spotlight Programme won the Coca-Cola CIPR Scoop of the Year and the Coca-Cola CIPR Current Affairs Programme of the Year for its Irish Robinson Investigation.

The Sunday Life picked up the award for Coca-Cola CIPR Sunday Newspaper of the Year while The Derry News was awarded Coca-Cola CIPR Weekly Newspaper of the Year.

Joanne Sweeney, Chair of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Northern Ireland thanked Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland for its continued generous sponsorship and support and also praised Phoenix Natural Gas, Sports Council for Northern Ireland, bmibaby, Queen's University Belfast, Belleek Living, mxbrandcom and Harrison Photography, who sponsored the Awards.

Joanne added: "The Chartered Institute of Public Relations Northern Ireland has been organising this event for 17 years as an opportunity to show local journalists that we value their work and contribution to Northern Ireland life.

"The awards represent our collective gratitude on behalf of all readers, viewers and listeners as our world would be less colourful and smaller place without our local print and broadcast media."

Congratulating the winners, Zoe Cunningham, Communications Manager for main sponsor Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland paid tribute to all of the media professionals who work and report in Northern Ireland and the extremely high standards of journalism they display.

Good year for Tesco as profits top £1.6bn
It has been a good year for the supermarket retailer Tesco which has seen pre-tax profits soar to £1.6 billion, according to the group's full-year preliminary statement issued today. In addition to driving up pre-tax margins by 17.6%, the company said that it had slashed its debts by £600 million, down to £4.1 billion. In the UK, sales grew by 14.
