McGuinness Welcomes 'Cultural Village' Bid
Plans to develop a new cultural village and business complex off Belfast's Ormeau Road were presented to Stormont Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness this week.
The Minister met with the community organisation An Droichead, meaning 'The Bridge', to discuss their plans to provide a range of educational, intercultural, language and social activities to promote Irish culture and language.
Mr McGuinness said: "In proposing the new plans for a cultural village and business complex, An Droichead has again demonstrated its commitment to being a centre of excellence for the development and enhancement of the Irish language, culture and heritage.
"I would like to congratulate them on these exciting plans which bring together culture, good relations and economic development in an area of social need.
"This represents an innovative approach, which has the potential to regenerate a derelict plot of land on a major arterial route; to promote business and to create employment opportunities.
"These developments will sustain much needed cultural and good relations projects," he added.
