Court Appearance Follows Drugs Raid

Six men are due in court in connection with a major drugs haul in Portstewart, Co Londonderry.

Ecstasy tablets with an estimated street value of £500,000, were seized on Friday and the men, aged in their 20s, were charged with possessing class A and B drugs, possession with intent to supply and conspiracy to supply Class A and B drugs.

The men will go before Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday, but already, Ulster Unionist East Londonderry MLA David McClarty has commended the PSNI on the seizure of half a million pounds of illegal drugs.

"This is fantastic news and to my mind amounts to half a million pounds worth of misery taken off our streets.

"I congratulate the PSNI on both the seizure and the arrests in Portstewart, and would urge members of the community to work with police to make this drugs scourge a thing of the past.

"This is a significant operation and I am genuinely delighted by the success of the PSNI's operation into organised crime in the North West.

"The good people of Portstewart and surrounding areas will feel confident that sterling work is being done to protect the young people within our communities from those seeking to profit from the misery of drug abuse," he said.
