Mivan 'Sails Ahead' With £6.5m Contracts

Antrim-based construction firm Mivan - which announced the launch of its new residential brand, Mivan Prime, earlier this year - has now secured its first project.

Known as 'The Bluff' is in excess of £3.1m and is an individual development located in Chinnor, Oxfordshire for a private client.

Commenting, local Ulster Unionist MLA Danny Kinahan (pictured) said: "I am delighted to hear that Mivan have secured such a major contract. It is testament to the work ethic and the wealth of talent we have in this country that a company from here can successfully compete in the world market.

"Mivan will be undertaking work which will include demolishing a house in rural Oxfordshire and constructing a cruise ship in the Bahamas so this is a very exciting time for the company.

"As I understand it they are also tendering for a number of other exciting projects and I would wish them every success in these ventures," said the MLA, noting that work has just started on-site and will complete in October 2011.

The scope involves the demolition of an existing house and replacement with ultra-contemporary, five-bedroom house set into the hillside.

Some of the features in this striking project will include a library, swimming pool and grass roof.

Mivan Prime will be acting as principal contractor, responsible for the full scope including build, M&E, joinery manufacture and interior fit-out with Mivan Prime Director Stephen Mills adding: "This is a great start for Mivan Prime in this particular marketplace. We have been involved in numerous, high-profile residential projects over the past five years and our progression to principal contractor in this sector made perfect sense.

"Mivan Prime is looking forward to delivering a first-class project for the team and the client."

Also, on the cruise ship side of the business, Mivan has secured a £700,000 contract aboard the P&O Adonia and a £2.6m contract for Princess Cruises on the Grand Princess. Both contracts will be executed in Grand Bahama Shipyard during April and May 2011.

Mivan's cruise ship team is currently gearing up for its next re-fit which is taking place in Singapore in mid November on the Pacific Pearl for Carnival Australia. Mivan's cruise ship business has been performing extremely well in the past few years despite the global downturn.
