Dublin Shooting Victims Were 'Set Up'

Gardaí in North Dublin have said they have reason to believe that the two men shot in a Finglas petrol station were 'set up' to be murdered.

The victims, Mark Noonan, 23, from O'Devaney Gardens and Glenn Murphy, 20, from the Drumlea Estate were shot dead on the forecourt of the Tesco Petrol Station at Clearwater in Finglas on Tuesday night.

Neither of the men was known to be involved in serious or organised crime and detectives are still attempting to establish a motive for the killings.

Officers investigating the double murder said they wished to appeal for the public's assistance and have released some fresh information about the incident.

A Gardaí spokesman said they are keen to speak to anyone that was at the Tesco Petrol station between 11pm and 11.45pm on Tuesday, when the shooting occurred, and in particular anyone that may have noticed a Toyota Avensis car registration number 05 D 86211 and a 06 D registration saloon type car.

The saloon was possibly a BMW, in or around the forecourt or general area before or after the incident. The investigation team are keen to trace the movements and locate this 06 D saloon car.

In addition Gardaí are keen to speak with anyone who may have information that may assist the Gardaí with their investigation to contact the incident room at Finglas Garda Station on 01- 6667532, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

The post mortem is scheduled to be conducted this afternoon by the Deputy State Pathologist Doctor Michael Curtis. According to the spokesman, some 60 Gardai from the DMR West and North Central Divisions along with officers from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation involved in the investigation.
