HP Boosts Galway Jobs Market
Over 100 new jobs have been announced for Hewlett Packard's premises in Galway by the Enterprise Minister Batt O'Keeffe.
He said the 105 positions would be in the Global Information Technology organisation, which supports the firm’s Enterprise Business (EB) unit.
Located in the Hewlett Packard (HP) campus in Ballybrit, the jobs will involve software engineering, testing and application development.
According to the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Innovation the positions on offer range from graduate to PhD level.
HP is one of the largest multinational firms in Ireland, with over 4,000 workers in Kildare, Dublin, Galway and Belfast.
The European Software Centre (ESC) in Ballybrit covers software and services research and development, software publishing services and software management and e-business services.
Minister O'Keeffe described the HP jobs as a "significant boost for research and development in Ireland" and commented: "HP has chosen Galway for these highly strategic and knowledge-based roles in a move that reinforces our global reputation for high-end research and development activity.
"The investment shows that we can compete for highly skilled jobs in the information technology sector as we forge ahead with efforts to make Ireland Europe's innovation hub."
