Woman Dragged From Car

There has been another case of a woman driver being forced out of a car during a hijacking. This time it was in Belfast city centre on Monday evening and took place in the Ventry Street area at around 5.40pm, when a man approached the silver Ford Focus while its driver was doing an errand. A woman was forced from the passenger seat by the hijacker, who was then joined by two other men who got into the vehicle as it drove off along Great Victoria Street. The PSNI are seeking help from the public in tracing the culprits.

New Year's Crash Tragedy

In an ironic twist, it has emerged that the victim of a crash into a north Antrim river on New Year's Day had himself been an experienced deep-sea diver. Liam McAuley, 63, died after his car went off the Glenshesk Road in Ballycastle around 3pm on Saturday, before plunging more than 50ft down a gorge and into a river. Police officers and members of an underwater search team spent several hours before recovering the body of Mr McAuley, who became the first road victim of 2011. A member of Mr McAuley's family said they had been left devastated by the tragedy noting: "Liam was a very experienced deep sea diver and had travelled all around the world with his work."

Jobs Are Saved

Jobs have been saved at a company in Co Antrim. The firm, Westport Resources Limited - which is a driver hire contractor - went into administration at the beginning of the month but now, news of the sale of the company being arranged last week has emerged and all 277 people working at the company will now keep their posts.
