LRC Brokers Aer Lingus Deal
The dispute between Aer Lingus and its cabin crew has ended after over a fortnight of disruption.
The trade union Impact, representing the disgruntled workers, said their current industrial action will be suspended while its members will be returned to the payroll and their normal duties.
The Labour Relations Commission, who have overseen the last phase of negotiations taking place since the end of last week, are to put together a binding arbitration to secure the deal within the coming days.
Impact said that virtually all the issues of disagreement had been resolved between the two parties during talks at the LRC but that final arbitration was required to complete the process.
It said that both parties had also signed up to ‘industrial peace’ for the duration of the overall cost-saving ‘Greenfield’ agreement at the airline and to resolve any future disputes through normal procedures.
This moning, Aer Lingus said it was endeavouring to operate its full schedule today but, despite the resolution, there was the potential for some disruption to the schedule arising from the ongoing industrial action by Cabin Crew represented by the Impact Trade Union.

Aer Lingus said it regrets any inconvenience caused and is doing all possible to avoid schedule disruption for its customers.

Examiner Appointed To Aer Arann

Ryanair Flies Low
The budget airline Ryanair - which flies from two bases in Northern Ireland - has revealed financial returns showing a major nosedive in operating profits. Ryanair plunged into the red by €169.2 million (£145.9m) in the year to March after being hit with a 59% hike in its fuel bill.

Revamped Ryanair Offer Shot-Down
Aer Lingus has rejected the Ryanair offer despite a revised bid from the budget airline yesterday. The rejection comes in spite of two major changes to the initial hostile takeover offer, with the Aer Lingus Chairman Colm Barrington dismissing the offer as "nothing new".

There's a multi-million euro bid for Aer Lingus on the table today as budget airline Ryanair makes a fresh takeover offer. The all-cash offer would value Aer Lingus at €748m euros (£619m) a lot less than the previous offer for Aer Lingus, which valued it at €1.5 billion.

Aer Lingus is to engage in talks today in a bid to avoid industrial action announced by the IALPA branch of the IMPACT trade union representing Pilots at the airline. Following a ballot of its members, where 87% voted in favour of industrial action, IALPA / IMPACT wrote to Aer Lingus confirming its intention to take such action.
