Bakery in training to raise more dough

Northern Ireland’s biggest bakery is training up its management team in a drive to bring in more dough.

Allied Bakeries Ireland, whose brands include Kingsmill and Sunblest, has set up a one-year management training and development scheme as part of the company’s commitment to the ongoing development of its staff.

The company currently has 18 supervisors and managers involved in the one-year scheme which began in August and runs until May 2002.

The scheme, which aims to improve the company’s overall effectiveness, will provide all the necessary skills required to being a successful manager or supervisor. This includes modules in law, time management and communications.

Alan Hempton, Managing Director of Allied Bakeries Ireland, said: “The fact that our brands are number one in their respective fields means that we have a reputation to maintain. We are ensuring that we succeed in this by guaranteeing that our staff are properly trained.

“It makes good business sense to provide your staff with the best training available. Allied Bakeries Ireland has taken a very pro-active approach to training and development.”

Fred Sutcliffe, Training and Development Manager for Allied Bakeries Ltd, added: “After completing the course all supervisors and managers will have helped develop Allied Bakeries Ireland’s product quality and ensured brand focus.

He concluded by saying that Allied Bakeries customers would be the naturally beneficiaries from the course. (MB)
