Rowdy football fans found themselves grounded at Glasgow Airport after the Captain decided to stop the from boarding the plane bound for Belfast.

Around 150 people were forced to spend the night at the airport when because of their raucous behaviour in the airport terminus.

An Easyjet spokesperson said that the Captain was within his rights to prevent people from boarding the 6:30 pm flight, which had been delayed because of a technical problem.

Earlier the airport’s bars had been closed due to drunken scenes, and by the time a replacement aircraft had arrived police reinforcements had been called in to quell the fans. A flight later departed but many of the fans were left stranded at the airport.

A spokesperson for Easyjet said that it was illegal to fly while under the influence of alcohol, and that to take the people on board the aircraft would have been a criminal act.
