Aer Lingus Talks Resume To Avoid Strike
Talks have continued through the night aimed at avoiding travel chaos this week surrounding proposed Aer Lingus' strike action.
Dialogue between Aer Lingus management and the pilots union Ialpa collapsed in the early hours of Saturday morning at the Labour Relations Commission (LRC).
The parties regrouped yesterday evening, hoping to agree terms in the row over rostering arrangements.
Ialpa, the pilots' branch of trade union Impact, said last summer pilots were regularly forced to work six out of seven days.
Last week they served notice of industrial action.
Talks are continuing today in a bid to avoid travel disruption for Aer Lingus passengers this week.
If strike action goes ahead some 30,000 passengers will face disruption to their travel plans.
Specific notice was given that, with effect from tomorrow, pilots based in Cork and Dublin will not work on rostered free days or annual leave days, and will report for duty one hour later than their rostered report times.
Pilots at Belfast and Gatwick have also balloted for industrial action and will serve notice on the company.
Aer Lingus yesterday revealed thousands of people due to fly with the airline next week have already changed or cancelled their booking.

Aer Lingus is to engage in talks today in a bid to avoid industrial action announced by the IALPA branch of the IMPACT trade union representing Pilots at the airline. Following a ballot of its members, where 87% voted in favour of industrial action, IALPA / IMPACT wrote to Aer Lingus confirming its intention to take such action.

Examiner Appointed To Aer Arann
The High Court has appointed an Examiner for troubled airline, Aer Arann. Aer Arann said it intends to operate normally during the period of examinership and intends to fly all Aer Arann services and all Aer Lingus Regional services operated under the airline’s franchise agreement with Aer Lingus.

Ryanair Flies Into Takeover Turbulence
There's a multi-million euro bid for Aer Lingus on the table today as budget airline Ryanair makes a fresh takeover offer. The all-cash offer would value Aer Lingus at €748m euros (£619m) a lot less than the previous offer for Aer Lingus, which valued it at €1.5 billion.

Ryanair Flies Low
The budget airline Ryanair - which flies from two bases in Northern Ireland - has revealed financial returns showing a major nosedive in operating profits. Ryanair plunged into the red by €169.2 million (£145.9m) in the year to March after being hit with a 59% hike in its fuel bill.
