Dell Jobs Boost Welcomed In Limerick
The creation of 150 new cloud computing jobs at Dell’s Irish operating bases in Limerick and Dublin over the next two years will serve as “a shot in the arm to the ICT industry in both regions”.
That’s according to the Chairman of the Limerick County Council and Limerick County Development Board, Cllr. Richard Butler, who said the computer giant’s announcement reflected the continued growth of the ICT sector in Ireland despite the current difficult economic operating environment.
He added that the news would also inject confidence in other multinational and indigenous, high-tech knowledge-based firms who are considering investing in Ireland or expanding their existing operations.
“These new jobs also underline the country’s growing status as a world leader in the emerging cloud computing industry. A recent survey by Microsoft showed that firms involved in the industry in Ireland could generate €9.5 billion in sales, and employ about 8,600 people.
“I wish to compliment the Mid West’s regional development agencies as well as Enterprise Ireland and the IDA for the ongoing work to promote the region as a location for investment. It’s just over two years on from when Dell announced significant cuts to its manufacturing operation in Limerick so we must continue to look for ways of creating new employment opportunities. The Business Support Unit of Limerick County Council and the Limerick County Development Board will play their part in these efforts”, concluded Cllr. Butler.

Plans For Limerick Motorway Axed
A controversial plan to build a multi-million euro motorway from Adare to Abbeyfeale has been scrapped due to a lack of funding. The decision to axe the plans was confirmed by Limerick County Council. Subsequently, a planning embargo, which has affected much of West Limerick for almost three years has now, has been lifted with immediate effect.
