5,000 Gardaí Complaints Lodged
The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) have confirmed it received 2,258 complaints last year.
Around 5,000 allegations were made against members of the Gardai, focused mainly on Abuse of Authority, followed by Neglect of Duty allegations being made.
Since the launch of the Commission, it was highlighted that 50% of complainants had third-level education behind them and were living in secure accommodation.
The GSOC said that rascism was not a driver being that the majority of Irish people made the complaints.
In Dublin, the north ranked highest in allegations made, however more complaints were made in Limerick and Waterford.
