Minister focuses on Cookstown economy

Permanent Secretary of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Bruce Robinson, has paid a visit to the Cookstown area to discuss a range of issues with local business people.

The main focus of the Minister’s visit was Loughry College's Food Business Incubation Centre where Mr Robinson saw at first hand the state-of-the-art facilities available to food companies. Such investment in the Centre has effectively established a 'food industry' cluster, which has helped to provide a focus for the development of food initiatives in the surrounding areas.

The Permanent Secretary also met with some of the tenant businesses in the Incubation Centre, to discuss their plans for future expansion on the site - which could create extensive new employment opportunities within the Cookstown area.

Mr Robinson then went on to meet with Bryan Taylor and Noel McCracken, directors of TES (NI) Ltd, a new start up company, based in the Ballyreagh Industrial Estate. TES (NI) Ltd has experienced rapid expansion since its start up in 1998 and the company is currently working with LEDU through the Competitive Excellence Process to map out future growth plans.

Noel McCracken commented: "LEDU support has enabled us to manage the business through its difficult start up phase and will be invaluable in the next phase of expansion." (CL)
