Local entrepreneurs encouraged to participate in Odyssey show

The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Sir Reg Empey, has thrown his full backing behind Northern Ireland’s first Personal Enterprise Show staged at Belfast’s new conference venue in the Odyssey Arena.

The show, which will run from 13 - 14 October, will provide a unique formula of five interactive zones as well as the professional assistance of banks, representatives from LEDU, the legal profession, Inland Revenue, and many other advisory and support organisations.

Speaking on Tuesday 18 September, Sir Reg said: "Before the number of business start-ups in Northern Ireland can be increased, potential entrepreneurs need to be created.

“Anyone who has ever considered self-employment and starting a new business should go along to the show and find out for themselves how to put their talents and ideas into action.

DETI officials say that the show promises to be a unique first for Northern Ireland. The model for it has been successfully pioneered in Scotland over a four-year period and has been instrumental in accelerating the business birth rate in that country.

The minister added: "I am very hopeful that this exciting and innovative show will have a similar effect in Northern Ireland, leading to a real increase in the number of business start-ups which will subsequently benefit our economy through job creation.

"Sometimes just a small step needs to be taken for individuals to make the giant leap to a new future. The Personal Enterprise Show will offer all the assistance necessary to allow individuals to unlock their entrepreneurial potential.” (AMcE)
