Partnership opens up access to higher education
A new era in partnership between Queen’s University Belfast, Armagh College of Further and Higher Education and Omagh College of Further Education has been signed and sealed by the Minister for Employment and Learning Dr Sean Farren.
The partnership agreement, signed on Thursday September 13, aims at widening access to higher education in Northern Ireland and further cements the co-operation that already exists between the two colleges and Queen’s University.
Speaking at the event Dr Farren said: “I am encouraged by these links, established some ten years ago initially between Queen’s and Omagh College then further reinforced with the establishment of the Queen’s campus in Armagh in 1995. Partnerships between colleges and universities can open up fresh opportunities for students.
“With the provision of Access courses encouraging progression to degree level study it is clear the concept of Life Long Learning as strong support.”
Providing environments for mature students to learn and develop their potential, the minister emphasised, was particularly important as family life and commitments could impact on learning opportunities.
He added: “As Minister for Employment and Learning I am committed to breaking down such learning barriers. The effective utilisation of existing resources in such a way is very encouraging.
“Your genuine and tangible commitment to developing and strengthening your relationship must be commended along with your commitment to ongoing support for industry, business and the community which augurs well for developments in the future.” (AMcE)
