Attack on Belfast mosque is condemned

Sinn Féin assembly member Alex Maskey has condemned an incident, which involved bricks being thrown at a mosque in south Belfast.

The attack is not believed to have been a racial attack. It was discovered when local Muslims gathered for Friday prayer in the building found three windows were broken. No one was injured in the attack on the building.

South Belfast MLA Alex Maskey who has condemned the attack said: "An attack on any place of worship is completely reprehensible, no less so the Mosque which was attacked this morning. To use the tragedy in America as a mask for such attacks is merely to mask intolerance and racism. Those who carried out this attack should desist immediately. Intolerance and racism can have no place in our society."

US President George W Bush has warned Americans not to blame Arab-Americans for the terror attacks as investigations into the incidents continue. (AMcE)
