Belfast man dies climbing Ben Nevis

A Northern Ireland man has died of a suspected heart attack while taking part in a charity walk on Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands.

Brendan Patrick O'Hare, 42, from the Four Winds area of Belfast, was walking on the mountain track when he collapsed at approximately 11.30am on Saturday, September 7.

The police said it is believed he suffered a heart attack.

He had been in a group of 200 people from the province who were participating in a fund-raising walk to raise money for the Ulster Cancer Foundation.

Trained personnel who were in the group administered emergency first aid and a rescue helicopter from HMS Gannet in Prestwick and members of Lochaber Mountain Rescue team went to the scene.

Mr O'Hare was rushed to Belford Hospital in Fort William but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A spokesperson from the Ulster Cancer Foundation said they were deeply saddened by Mr O’Hare’s death.

Committed to the work of the charity Mr O’Hare had taken part in the Ben Nevis challenge last year. (AMcE)
