Raising Money In A 'Bucket Of Doom'

An intrepid Belfast woman has revealed her plan to drive to Romania in her iconic 'Bucket of Doom', to raise money for charity.

Joanne Shaw, 33, told the Big List and www.4ni.co.uk that she will be making the 1,200 mile drive in her 1991 Volkswagon Polo, which she's lovingly called Bucket of Doom, next week.

The six-day drive is part of the Street Safari events, during which daring drivers trek across vast distances in customised 'bangers', often for charity, and Joanne's journey will be in aid of Action Cancer.

Speaking to the well known 'going out guide', the Big List, Jo, who's previously worked on behalf of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Simon Community and Rainbow Project, said: "I've decided to drive to Romania to try and raise money for Action Cancer.

"I have in the past made the Street Safari journey from Land's End to John O'Groats with the group and decided to do their new run from Calais in France to Brasov in Romania.

"I felt like if I was going to drive that distance I should do it for a good cause."

Joanne will be the only person from Northern Ireland doing the run, meeting up with other teams from England, Scotland and Europe in Calais before the six-day drive to the Romanian city.

"In Romania the teams will break up and I intend to go onto Bulgaria for a couple of days then just drive back again. On Wednesday, I will be getting window stickers that have Action Cancer on them and the link to donate", Joanne said.

She added: "I have never driven across Europe before. I had planned to go on my own, but I have a friend who might be coming with me if he can save enough money before I go!"
