Open+Direct moves into Irish credit market

Financial services group, Open+Direct is set to roll out a full range of retail credit services in the Republic of Ireland after completing a hi-tech connection with the Irish Credit Bureau.

The company was the first in the UK to offer real-time credit scoring and now does so to more than 500 retail sites across Northern Ireland and Great Britain. Now that it has completed an electronic link to the Bureau’s Dublin headquarters it can launch all its services in the Republic, with full Bureau credit-scoring details and additional fraud prevention safeguards.

Open+Direct has already started trading in the Republic and over the coming months will be actively seeking new business primarily from within the furniture, electrical and PC sectors.

The company expects the online credit market to be worth up to £10 million this year.

Paul Elliott, Managing Director, Open+Direct, said: “The link-up with the Irish Credit Bureau will enable us to greatly expand our business in the Republic.

“We have seen in Northern Ireland and across Great Britain, where we pioneered real-time credit scoring, that retailers want this service. It is the most up-to-date, modern and fastest credit-scoring system available. It makes life easier for both retailers and their customers.”

The system, completely developed by Open+Direct at its Belfast headquarters, credit scores customers in under a minute, thus cutting the time spent waiting for a decision at the checkout. (MB)
