McCausland Views Ballymena Investment

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has visited neighbourhood renewal areas in Harryville, Ballee and Ballykeel.

The Minister saw at first hand how DSD funding of over £5million has made a difference to the daily lives of people living in the areas.

The Minister said: "The range of projects being delivered in the area has made a great contribution to improving the quality of life for people in some of our most deprived neighbourhoods.

"Programmes such as Neighbourhood Renewal are crucial in tackling the long term spiral of deprivation. There is also no doubt the local community has a pivotal role in the implementation of programmes like these.

"Neighbourhood Renewal funding has greatly benefited residents in these areas. However, the positive impact made here would not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of the local community."

The Minister also visited the Dunclug and Doury Road areas where he spoke to local people and community representatives about some of the problems faced by residents.

Minister McCausland said: "Hearing at first hand the issues that these communities face day and daily demonstrates how important these programmes are to the communities they serve. It is clear from my visit today that a great deal is being achieved, but there remains much more to be done and we are actively working with the communities on this."
