Dole Frauds Pay The Penalty

Seven people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates' Court this week for claiming benefits they were not entitled to along with two others in Lisburn.

Robert Lee (34) of Commedagh Drive, Belfast was given 80 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £302.

Coleen McNally (25) of Parkside Gardens, Belfast was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Income Support totalling £450.

William Evans (42) of Posnett Court, Belfast was given 80 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £50 for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance and Employment Support Allowance totalling £339.

John Pollock (51) of Craigmore Way, Belfast was given a one year probation order and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Income Support totalling £162.

Gina Smith (22) of Shore Crescent, Belfast claimed Housing Benefit and Income Support totalling £4,216 while failing to declare employment. She was fined £300 and ordered to pay court costs of £49.

Iain Elliott (37) of Rockview Street, Belfast claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £5,045 while failing to declare employment. He was given 80 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £55.

Anthony Gibson (60) of Beechmount Gardens, Belfast claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £11,841 while failing to declare capital. He was fined £400 and ordered to pay court costs of £37.

Elsewhere, two people were convicted at Lisburn Magistrates' Court.

Elizabeth McAree (22) of Stewartstown Road, Dunmurry was given nine months probation and ordered to pay court costs of £38 for wrongful encashment of Incapacity Benefit totalling £593.

Alixandria McCallum (49) of Grand Street, Lisburn claimed Income Support totalling £5,237 while failing to declare employment. She was given 200 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £58.

All are also required to repay any money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Named And Shamed: Frauds Pay Penalty
A dozen people have been caught fiddling the benefits' system in Northern Ireland. All have been identified on the Department of Social Development's (DSD) own website - a new development - and have had their details circulated to the local media in each of the areas concerned.

Benefit Frauds Face Court Sanctions
Fraudsters are being made to pay the price for claiming a variety of benefits they were not entitled to. A total of 14 people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates' court yesterday with Joanne McBride (35) of Portallo Street, Belfast claiming Income Support totalling £4,451 while failing to declare she was working.

Suspended Prison Term For Fraudster
Nine people were convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast Magistrates' court this week for claiming benefits they were not entitled to - with one handed a jail term. Colin McGookin (52) of Sheringhurst Park, Belfast claimed Income Support, Incapacity Benefit and Disability Living Allowance totalling £25,168 while failing to declare employment.
