Appointment Embraces UTV Expansion

Belfast-based UTV has appointed a new Head of Resources.

In his new role, Brendan Mallon will have overall responsibility for UTV Television’s technical and production facilities.

He has 28 years' experience in broadcasting, having worked with the BBC in Northern Ireland, London and Scotland.

Mr Mallon said: "I will continue to support and develop UTV's highly successful multi-platform news and production capability.

"A major part of my role will be to ensure that UTV develops the right blend of skills and new technology - so that we continue to deliver the compelling content the UTV audience expects."

Most recently, Mr Mallon was based in Glasgow as Operations Manager and Technical Development Manager for BBC Scotland.

Educated at St Colman's College in Newry, he holds a diploma in Electronics and Communication from Jordanstown.

Michael Wilson, UTV's Managing Director of Television said: "As UTV continues to innovate and invests more in new technology, Brendan brings us great technical expertise and a real depth of experience. We are delighted to have him on board."

UTV Enters Talks For New Channel
UTV Media is set to commence talks with the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) about establishing a new television channel. The channel would be based in the Republic of Ireland. The broadcaster hopes to launch the new station – UTV Ireland – in January 2015.
