Selena To Host MTV Awards In Belfast

Selena Gomez is coming to Northern Ireland having been confirmed as the host of this year's MTV Europe Music Awards, due to be held in Belfast on 6 November.

The teen actress and singer, 19, who is dating Canadian pop-star Justin Bieber, will follow the likes of Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Eva Longoria and Snoop Dogg in hosting one of pop music's biggest nights outside of America.

Previous EMAs winner, Lady Gaga, leads the pack again with six of this year’s nominations, including Best Female, followed by two other US acts, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars, both up for four awards.

A statement on the official MTV Awards website said: "Selena Gomez is set to preside over our annual extravaganza honouring music artists around the world.

"The TV and movie star and 'Love You Like a Love Song' singer will be centre stage at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.

"Hailing from Texas, Selena started acting at age seven, and landed a role in 'Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over' in 2003.

"Her Disney Channel show 'Wizards of Waverly Place' debuted in 2007 and won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Program in 2009.

"Her first album 'Kiss & Tell', was certified gold, as was her follow-up, 'A Year Without Rain', which yielded Selena two platinum singles," the website added.

Along with her acting and musical accomplishments, the teenager also finds the time to work on her fashion line, Dream Out Loud, and to serve as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

"I'm so excited to be the host of the 2011 MTV EMA - it's a dream come true!" said Selena.

"This is such a huge event that always recognizes the biggest stars in music from across the globe, so it's a real honour to be MC at this year's show."
