Radix Telecom shed jobs at Portadown plant

Radix Telecom have announced they will be cutting more than 50 per cent of the workforce at their Portadown plant.

The firm blamed the effects of the downturn in the US economy for the jobs cuts.

A subsidiary of Korean electronics company Dae Ryung, Radix currently employs 119 people in the manufacture of satellite video receivers for the European market.

The company has been in Northern Ireland since 1995.

Speaking last night, a company spokesman said Radix regretted the 76 redundancies and was hopeful as many as possible could be taken on a voluntary basis.
