Irish Inflation Up 2.6% In September

Inflation has jumped again in September meaning that the cost of living has steadily increased for two consecutive months.

New figures by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) have revealed that inflation rose by 2.6% in September while prices also increased by 0.3%.

It is understood that clothing and footwear prices and higher mortgage repayments combined have been the influencing factor in pushing up the annual inflation rate.

Meanwhile the CSO said monthly increases in the cost of living this September were largely driven by hikes of 5.4% in fashion after the traditional summer sales came to an end.

More expensive mortgages saw a 1.7% increase in the cost of running a house and an 8.9% price increase was noted in conjunction with water, electricity, gas and other fuels.

However there was a fall of 2.3% in furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance and a 1.6% fall in education.
