Larne Gang Attack Condemned By Sinn Fein

A local Larne politician has said that more needs to be done to prevent attacks by gangs in the Co Antrim port town after a man was beaten with hammers and baseball bats in an attack yesterday.

Sinn Fein's Oliver McMullan was commenting after the men, wielding iron bars and sticks forced the victim behind a garage in Doric Drive at about 9.30pm on Sunday.

He was attacked and beaten. He was later treated in hospital for a suspected broken leg.

Mr McMullan stated: "Last night saw another man badly beaten by a gang wielding iron bars and sticks resulting in severe injuries.

"This is the latest in a series of attacks in the Larne area and more needs to be done to stop this type of attack.

"The people carrying out these attacks seem to be able to operate with impunity in the Larne area," he added.

"The PSNI needs to do more, as do the local community in bringing the people responsible for these type of attack to justice and anyone with information should bring it forward immediately," said the MLA after the PSNI appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
