US firm set to provide significant boost to local IT sector
In significant boost for the local IT sector, 40 jobs are to be created in the province following the announcement that American IT company ACS International Resources Inc (ACSI) is to establish a Belfast-based subsidiary offshoot.
With an investment value of almost £1.4 million, the move represents the company’s first expansion into Europe. The new headquarters are to be located in the Merrion Business Centre, with serviced office accommodation at 58 Howard Street.
Sir Reg Empey, Minister for Enterprise Trade and Investment, welcomed the news and described the news as a “significant boost” for the province’s IT sector, with the company now positioning itself to claim an ever-increasing share in the worldwide market for IT outsourcing. He went on to express his hope that the move would in turn enhance the development of the local knowledge-based economy.
He was joined by Milan Patel, Chief Executive Officer of ACSI, who said: "Northern Ireland provides us with an ideal location to fulfil our aim of broadening our customer base and scope of services by targeting the wider US and European markets.
"We intend to target software development companies that develop products for the US retail market and large US retail store chains. In addition the Northern Ireland company will provide outsourced IT support to the US parent company," Mr Patel added.
Established in 1992, ACSI has steadily grown to become one of America’s fastest expanding private companies, employing 250 people, and with headquarters in Delaware US and another subsidiary outlet in India. (CL)
