Market Trading
Belfast's St George's Market will be open for six extra days in December, in the run up to Christmas. The market will open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays (10am - 4pm) on 12, 13 and 14 December and 19, 20 and 21 December. It will open as normal on Friday, Saturday and Sundays, including Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, but will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Festive Road Focus
A DUP member of the Northern Ireland Policing Board, David McIlveen MLA has urged the PSNI to ensure their Christmas traffic campaign is focused on accident black spots in order to be fully effective. "I hope the police will focus their efforts on those areas where these problems have manifested themselves in the past and that everyone has a safe Christmas period," he said today.
Frauds Caught
Five people were convicted at Londonderry Magistrates' Court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. William O'Donnell (50) of Knockalla Park, Londonderry failed to declare employment while claiming Jobseekers Allowance totalling £3,790. He was given a three-month custodial sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay court costs of £43. Kevin Lavy (28) of Ferguson Street, Londonderry failed to declare employment while claiming Jobseekers Allowance, Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £2,357. He was given 80 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £46. Edwin McCarter (34) of Drumgesh Gardens, Londonderry failed to declare employment while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £9,248. He was given 80 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £55. Ryan Cullen (29) of Cashel Hill Park, Londonderry failed to declare employment while claiming Jobseekers Allowance totalling £7,163. He was given 100 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £52. Alison Knight (35) of Primity Crescent, Newbuildings failed to declare she was living with a partner while claiming Income Support totalling £6,442.She was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay court costs of £45. All are also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Damien Laverty (34) of Glenbaw Park, Dunmurry claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £6,746 while failing to declare employment. He was given a four-month prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £40.

Criminals Sentenced For Benefit Fraud
A man was convicted at Belfast Magistrates' court on Wednesday for claiming benefits he was not entitled to. Raymond Crooks, 52, of Bentinck Street, Belfast was given three months imprisonment suspended for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Employment Support Allowance totalling £173.
