Arsonists attempt to burn down church
There was an attempt to set fire to a laundry room at the Holy Cross Church on the Crumlin Road in Belfast on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred at about 11pm on Wednesday August 1 when intruders forced their way into Holy Cross Chapel grounds on the Crumlin road and poured flammable liquid into the laundry room, setting it alight.
The flames were spotted by a passing British army patrol who managed to put out the fire. The damage caused by the fire was said to be minor.
Also on Wednesday night, two petrol bombs were thrown at houses in Oldthrone Park, Newtownabbey, Co Antrim around 11 pm. One house was vacant at the time and a woman in the second house escaped injury.
Further incidents that took place on Wednesday include an attack on an army patrol in County Armagh. An explosive device was thrown at the patrol on the Antrim Road in Lurgan at about 7.30pm on Wednesday. Another device was also found outside a house in the area. (AMcE)

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Man Dies In County Antrim House Fire
A man in his 50's has died following a house fire in County Antrim. The incident took place on the Carlane Road near Tommebridge on the evening of Wednesday 14 November. Police received a report of the fire shortly after 8pm. The man was taken to hospital for treatment but died soon after.

Fatal House Fire In Newtownards
A woman in her 30s has died in a fire at a house in Newtownards, Co. Down. The fire occurred at a house in Ilex Avenue at around 5.30pm and the woman is reported to have died at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances of the death is being conducted by police who have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Man Found Dead In Co Tyrone House Fire
Police have launched an investigation after a man was found dead in a house fire in County Tyrone. The fire, at a house at Eastvale Avenue on Dungannon, is believed to have started in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The fire was already out when the emergency crew arrived. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
