Driver 'Tried To Murder' Car Crash Victims
Four men have been injured, two seriously, in a car 'attack' incident in east Belfast in the early hours of Monday.
The Alliance East Belfast MP Naomi Long has expressed her shock after the four men were seriously injured when they were hit by a vehicle on the Lower Newtownards Road.
Naomi Long MP said: "This is shocking and appalling crime. One of these men could have been killed. The person driving this car has clearly no thought for the lives of others.
"I hope that the four men injured will be able to make a swift and full recovery.
"If anybody has any information about this incident then they must contact the police," she added, also noting that the car was later found after it had been set on fire.
The PSNI said it happened at about 2.50am and also revealed they are treating it as attempted murder.
They said that the car was found on fire near Conway Street in west Belfast about 25 minutes later and also revealed that one of the victims who was injured in the incident was found close to the scene.
A police spokesperson confirmed that when found nearby he was discovered to have suffered assault-type injuries, although it is thought he may also have been struck by the vehicle as well.
Police have said they received reports of a vehicle being driven recklessly in the area, which then struck at least three victims.
Two of the men hit by the car are believed to be in a serious condition and the third has a suspected broken leg.
Also commenting, the East Belfast MLA Michael Copeland has expressed his shock after four men were injured as a result of a hit and run attack on the Lower Newtownards Road.
The Ulster Unionist said: "I am deeply shocked to hear the news this morning that four men were mown down by a car in the early hours of this morning. One of these men could easily have died as a result of this attack.
"I would wish them all a speedy recovery and encourage anyone with any information to pass it onto the PSNI immediately."
