County Down Cannabis Factory Found
A cannabis factory has been uncovered during a search of premises in County Down. About 400 plants were seized after police officers entered the property in the Dundrum Road area, in Newcastle. Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
Cliftonville Ban Six Supporters
Cliftonville, an Irish League football team, have banned six of their supporters following disruptive behaviour at recent games between Crusaders and Coleraine. Cliftonville are in the process of identifying individuals who are responsible and ban punishments range from one month to life bans. This news follows the arrest of 16-year-old Cliftonville supporter who punched Coleraine player Johnny Black after a match last month. The football club said they were continuing to co-operate with the PSNI in their investigations and are likely to issue more bans.
Strong Winds Delay Oil Transfer
The transfer of 54,000 tonnes of oil from a damaged tanker on Belfast Lough has been delayed again. The oil transfer was due to take place today but was put off due to high winds. The Genmar Companion has been anchored off the Copeland Islands after a crack developed in its upper deck on 16 December. Originally the transfer was supposed to take place on Saturday.
Housing Development Planning Applications Still Falling
The Northern Ireland Planning Second Quarterly Development Management Statistical Bulletin 2011/12 provisional figures have been published.The figures reveal that the number of planning applications being submitted in Northern Ireland for domestic alterations and extensions is still falling, down by 37% in urban areas and by 31% in rural areas on the same time last year. A significant fall has also been observed for housing developments (down 45%).This is part of an overall decline in planning applications being received and may partially reflect the ongoing economic uncertainty.

Belfast City Council To Reform Planning Services
Belfast City Council has announced it's intention to reform Planning Services, with a renewed focus on how it communicates with various customer groups. The announcement follows recommendations in a report it commissioned by Scotland's former Chief Planner, Jim Mackinnon CBE and broad consultation with a number of stakeholder groups.

Boost For Solar Energy Welcomed
Alliance South Down spokesperson, Councillor Patrick Clarke, has welcomed the announcement by the Environment Minister that schools, businesses and farm buildings will no longer need planning permission for solar panels. The change relates to micro generation equipment, including solar panels, which generate electricity or heat from sunlight.

Councillor Training Begins Ahead Of Planning Transfer
The Department of the Environment has begun councillor training ahead of the transfer of planning functions from central government. Planning will transfer to local councils in April 2015. The training events are due to be rolled out across Northern Ireland from early September 2014 to late January 2015.
