Man Jailed Over 2009 Newry Murder
A man has been told that he must serve at least 11 years in jail after beating a polish man to death in Newry. Twenty-year-old Adrian Cunningham has admitted to the murder of Marek Muszynski, 40. Mr Muszynski was murdered in the city in July 2009. The judge said that he would take Mr Cunningham’s guilty plea and cooperation into account when deciding his sentence.
NI Given Whooping Cough Vaccine Reminder
Following an outbreak of whooping cough in England and Wales Northern Ireland health officials are reminding parents to have their children immunised. According to recent figures cases of whooping cough in England and Wales have doubled in the last year affecting adults and teenagers in particular. There has however been no rise in cases of whooping cough in Northern Ireland as yet- health officials are merely issuing the reminder as a preventative measure.
Consumer Group's Four Steps For Saving
An Irish consumer group has launched a four-step guide to making savings to help consumers in the New Year. The results from the National Consumer Agency latest market research showed that budgeting, saving more and reducing debt were Ireland's key money resolutions for 2012, while three out of four said they planned to review their personal finances. A spokesman for the group said: "If you regularly review your finances this can help ease some of those money worries which many of us experience after Christmas. It puts you in control of your finances and helps you avoid debt problems, prepare for unexpected expenses and work towards building a nest egg for the future, no matter how much money you have. "The agency's four-step guide to managing money contains information on how to review your finances and a 'financial health check' to provide a clear picture of your financial position.

A whooping cough vaccination programme for pregnant women is to be continued for another five years, it has been announced. The recommendation from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has been welcomed by the Public Health Agency (PHA).

Whooping Cough Cases Highest In 20 Years
Cases of whooping cough are the highest in 20 years, according to the Northern Ireland Public Health Agency (PHA). 221 cases for this year up to 30 September have been confirmed. This is a substantial increase on 2011’s total of just 15. 30 cases were confirmed last month alone.
