Blair to hear TUC objections at conference

The TUC have published the agenda for their annual conference, to be held in September, which includes a list of objections to be put to the Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Several unions have tabled motions calling for a rethink of the Government's push for more private involvement in public services.

The largest union, Unison, which represents public sector workers, says that such moves "will lead to the demise of quality public services".

The Transport & General Workers Union (TGWU), whose head Bill Morris will give the keynote speech this year, says that "when performance and delivery are measured in social terms, it is the public sector, not the private sector, that is the most efficient and most effective".

But the Amalgamated Engineering & Electrical Union (AEEU) has put forward a motion more favourable to the government's position, calling for "government and trade unions, along with both public and private sectors, to work together in partnership to deliver public services that we can be proud of".
