Minister Encourages Steps To Work In South And East Belfast
Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry today visited Bryson FutureSkills, the new name for North City Training, at their Holywood Road premises in Belfast.
Bryson FutureSkills has recently been awarded the contract to deliver Steps to Work in South and East Belfast. Steps to Work is the Department for Employment and Learning’s main adult return to work programme.
Congratulating Bryson FutureSkills on their success in being awarded the contract to deliver Steps to Work, Minister Farry said: "Steps to Work is an important employment programme which to date has helped over 12,000 participants find work in Northern Ireland. It helps address the very real difficulties faced by those who are out of work by helping to improve their prospects of gaining and sustaining employment.
"Bryson FutureSkills has made a successful start in implementing the Steps to Work programme in South and East Belfast. They have engaged successfully with local employers to develop tailored provision, within the programme, in line with both employers’ and participants’ needs. "Bryson FutureSkills is to be congratulated on introducing innovative and imaginative approaches in order to help people into employment and I wish them continued success."

Consultation On New Employment Programme Launched
Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry today launched a public consultation on a proposed new employment programme for Northern Ireland. The new programme, which has been called provisionally Steps 2 Success (NI), will replace the Department’s main adult return to work provision, Steps to Work, which was introduced in September 2008.

SDLP Employment and Learning Spokesperson Pat Ramsey has welcomed the news that the DEL Minister has approved a new strand of the Steps to Work (StW) programme to be known as Step Ahead 50+ that will support 1,100 older people who are long term unemployed back into work.

Work Placement Rollout For Republic's Schools
Irish Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan has announced an FÁS Work Placement Programme for the State's schools. The programme will allow schools to apply to take on one or more people for a work experience placement for 25-40 hours a week. The placement period is for a minimum of two months and a maximum of nine months.
