New name for employment and education department
Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Sean Farren, has said he is delighted with the approval of his Department’s new name which recently came into effect.
Formerly known as the Minister for Higher and Further Education, Training and Employment, Dr Farren said he believed that the new title – Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) - represented each of the key areas within his Department.
He added: “This shorter title is much easier to say. More importantly the new title reflects the Department’s responsibilities for Lifelong Learning from post school level through further and higher education and all aspects of training in preparation for employment.
He added: “With the new name, my Department will continue to deliver its range of services in a competent and professional manner and I am confident that our users will find the title more friendly.” (MB)

Irish employers anticipate improvement in hiring activity
Irish employment confidence is showing signs of recovery, according to results of the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey. For the quarter January to March 2003, the Net Employment Outlook is 3%, which is a modest recovery of 7% points from the previous quarter’s pessimistic outlook.
