Belfast Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A man was convicted at Belfast Crown court yesterday for claiming benefits he was not entitled to. Gary Eaton (51) of Jubilee Avenue, Belfast claimed Income Support totalling £18,806 while failing to declare his partner’s employment. He was given a 150 hours community service on each of the two charges to run concurrently.He will also have to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
£1.3m Project For Ballymoney Launches
The Transport Minister has launched a £1.3million investment project in Ballymoney that will benefit cyclists, pedestrians and rail users. The project will see the construction of a new, fully accessible, traffic-free bridge at Ballymoney Train Station that will provide a new safe and direct link between the north and south of the town, avoiding busy roads. It will also provide improved access to station platforms and provide an additional 35 park and ride spaces for the increasing number of people travelling by rail.
Former Wildcat Becomes Rising Tennis Star
One young lady who recognises the importance of the fantastic sports programmes offered by Coleraine Borough Council is rising local tennis champ, Eva Lennox. Eva, who recently met Olympian, Dame Mary Peters, is a former member of Council’s Wildcats Activ8 Club which will again be part of Council’s sports programme for 2012, the ‘Sports Development and Recreation Activities Programme for Young People’. The Sports Programme, which has now opened for registration, will provide activities for children of all ages. It is comprised of Bannsiders Bambinos, NRGIZE Sport and Recreation Club, Just Dance Club and Teenie Tumblers, and the Wildcats Activ8 Club which has been recognised as exceptional by Olympics 2012 with the award of an Inspire Mark.

A new sports complex has been given an 'executive' official opening. Located in Gulladuff, Co Londonderry, the facility includes an indoor synthetic pitch and changing rooms as well as a fitness studio and multi purpose community room.

£656,000 Pledged For L'Derry Sports Campus
A new L’Derry sports campus is to be given £656,000 funding by the government. Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland announced the funding for the new North West Regional Sports Campus. He said: "This facility will not just serve the city but will benefit athletes across Northern Ireland.

Peace Centre Funding Withdrawn
European Union funding of £18m for the peace centre at the former Maze prison has been withdrawn, after parties were unable to agree on the details surrounding the development. The Special European Programmes Body said it had removed the financial support after consulting with the Office of the First and deputy First Minister.
