EMS Launches Machine For Recycling Sector
Tyrone company Environmental Marketing Solutions (EMS) Ltd has recently launched the latest in a series of innovative machines that it has developed for the recycling sector with support from Invest Northern Ireland.
Based in Killyman, EMS was set up in 2006 to design and manufacture machines suitable for the recycling and construction industries. Its latest product is a machine that enables recycling bags to be opened without damaging the contents. It represents a cost-effective solution for recyclers faced with a growing amount of bagged recycled waste.
Carol Keery, Invest NI's Director of Innovation, Research and Technology, says: "EMS's ongoing investment in research and development has resulted in a suite of products that are finding international success. The company is constantly looking for new opportunities and identifying ways to solve problems identified by the recycling sector.
"This focus on R&D coupled with a strong export marketing strategy has resulted in many new contracts for EMS, showing that this approach delivers business success even in difficult economic conditions."
Over the last three years EMS has invested over half a million pounds in research and development, supported by almost £200,000 from Invest NI. Invest NI's support is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Previous products resulting from this investment include a mobile shredder and the VIBRAFLOW flip flow screen, a cost-effective solution to the problem of screening fine sticky material.
EMS is now selling these products in markets across the world including North America, the Middle East and Portugal.
Sean McBride, Business Development Manager with EMS, said: "Our latest product, the bag opener, was developed in response to feedback from our customers who were looking for a cost-effective solution to the problem of extracting recyclable waste delivered in plastic bags. The main options currently available are manual opening, which is labour intensive and therefore expensive, or passing the bag through a shredder, which damages some of the contents. The EMS machine opens the bag without damaging the contents.
"Our decision to invest substantially in research and development since we set up in 2006 has paid dividends and we will continue to develop new products for the sector.
"We have benefited from a range of support from Invest NI helping us both to develop new products and to bring them to market."
