POLICE CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE SPRUCEFIELD CRASH

POLICE are investigating the possibility that one of the vehicles involved in the recent fatal road crash at Sprucefield had taken part in another crash just minutes before the tragic event.

The head-on collision on the M1 in County Antrim.- in which one man died and two people were seriously hurt – occurred on Sunday July 15 at around 5.30pm. A grey Daihatsu Charade travelling the wrong way along the country-bound carriageway collided with a red Vauxhall Corsa between the Saintfield junction and Sprucefield.

It is now thought that the driver of the Daihatsu, who died at the scene, may have been disorientated by an earlier crash, after reports were made of an incident involving a similar car only minutes before the collision occurred.

Traffic branch officers were alerted to the vehicle, which was travelling on the wrong side of the road, but were unable to cross over the motorway and reach the driver, who was positioned in the overtaking lane.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact the Traffic Branch with any information they might have. (CL)
