Family Of La Mon Demand Inquiry

The families of those killed by an IRA bomb some 30 years ago have demanded a full public enquiry. La Mon Hotel outside east Belfast was the scene of an atrocity that claimed the lives of 12 members of the Irish Collie Club on February 17, 1978. Now, an Historical Enquiries Team (HET) investigation has revealed crucial police documents related to the atrocity were lost. Relatives said the report lacked integrity and morality adding that original transcripts with IRA members who were interviewed about the bombing were missing and called for a full inquiry.

Pub Landlords Brace For Fines

Pub landlords througout the UK and NI are could face fines or jail as a campaign of prosecutions against pubs illegally broadcasting English football matches begins. The campaign comes after the Premier League won a copyright ruling against British pubs using non-UK decoder cards to show games. The Premier League and BSkyB will signal their intent in warnings placed in adverts running in the drinks trade press today.

Minister Praises Therapeutic Services

Health Minister Edwin Poots has visited two residential centres providing therapeutic services for people with mental health illnesses. Mr Poots visited Glencarn House and Sophia House in Glengormley, which are run by Threshold, where he met with residents and staff. The Minister said: “I am impressed by the specialist therapeutic services Threshold offers people who are suffering from mental illness. The fact that it has established services across Northern Ireland and now provides care and support for between 250-300 people is testament to the quality and success of these services. The Minister commended Threshold staff and volunteers for the care and treatment they give to their residents. He also congratulated Threshold’s Chief Executive, Dr Raman Kapur, on receiving the MBE in the New Year’s Honours List.
