Pigs Killed After Trailer Crashes Into Electricity Pole

Many pigs have been killed after a trailer the animals were in crashed into an electricity pole in Cullybackey.

The trailer overturned on the Main Street in the village on Friday morning.

It is believed the trailer had approximately 100 pigs in it, and police said around eight animals have been put down.

Main Street has been closed in both directions and motorist have been advised to take alternative routes.

Men Attacked With Metal Pole In Randalstown
Two men, aged 25 and 33, have been attacked with a metal pole in Randalstown, County Antrim. The pair were assaulted by a gang of up to ten men in the Main street area at around 2.30am on Monday. Two men were arrested, however they have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

In one of the worst animal cruelty incidents yet seen in Northern Ireland, starving pigs and cattle have been found standing in eight inches of water - surrounded by other dead and dying beasts.

Horror Farm Fire Kills 100 Animals
A large number of animals have been burned to death on a Ballykelly farm. Hysterical animals hampered attempts to put out the blaze and delayed attempts to rescue some of the cattle and pigs from the accidental hay shed fire. Willie Lynch of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said it was a dreadful situation.

Police Rescue Neglected Animals
Officers from the PSNI have rescued a number of neglected animals after uncovering a cannabis factory in east Belfast. Cannabis plants worth an approximate street value of £15,000 were seized during a planned raid by the District Support Team at a property on the Old Holywood Road, on the outskirts of Belfast.
