Countdown Underway To Greenmount Centenary Show 2012
The Greenmount Centenary Show is being heralded as one of the showcase family attractions for this summer. With less than 100 days to go, the Show will take place on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June 2012, 100 years after the first students commenced their education at Greenmount.
Paul McHenry, Chairman of the Show’s organising committee explained how preparations are shaping up: “As we count down the months before the Show kicks off, we have at the moment planned for over 60 attractions, including vintage machinery demonstrations, YFCU demonstrations, Koi-Carp displays, plus you will have the opportunity to participate in food tasting panels. This is in addition to well-established programmes that have been run in the past on crafts, cookery demonstrations, wildlife exhibitions, floristry demonstrations and not forgetting the ever-popular plant sales.
OFMDFM Failing Children And Young People - SDLP
SDLP OFMDFM spokesperson Colum Eastwood has voiced concern at the long-overdue Children and Young People’s Strategic Indicators report.
The report is a mid-term update on the ten year strategy ‘Our Children and Young People-Our Pledge’ launched by the Department in 2006.
Mr Eastwood said: "I have been waiting patiently since June 2011 for OFMDFM to publish this report. I have submitted a series of questions to Mr McGuinness and Mr Robinson to understand when the overdue report would be available and now 9 months later we finally get to see how they are performing against the pledges made 6 years ago.
"The report is a litany of failure. After 6 years where the First Ministers and their Junior Ministers were supposed to be focusing on delivering key pledges, we have a situation where key measures are getting worse. Infant mortality is increasing, deaths of young people due to accident or suicide is increasing, child poverty is increasing and our young people are leaving school and can’t get jobs or proper training.
"The First and deputy First Ministers need to look at this report and admit that they are failing in their responsibilities towards children and young people.
"They need to include a key commitment in the Programme for Government to deliver on all measures in the ‘Our Children and Young People-Our Pledge’ document as it was omitted from their draft proposal."
