East Belfast UVF 'Boss' Arrested

A man alleged to be the UVF boss in east Belfast has been arrested as part of a serious crimes investigation.

Stephen Matthews, 49, was arrested this morning in connection with a slate of crimes including drug offenses.

Two other men have also been arrested by detectives investigating incidents in the area in recent weeks, including a bomb attack on a house last weekend.

It is understood that a recent spate of attacks are connected to a feud between east Belfast UVF members and members of another rival and illegal organisation.

One of the crimes include an attempt on the life of the recently arrested Stephen Matthews.

A taxi driver has been robbed at knifepoint in Belfast this morning, Monday 20 May. The incident happened in the Shankill Road area of the city shortly before 1am. A man and woman in their thirties were arrested by responding officers a short distance away. They remain in custody this morning.

Man Injured In Belfast Hit And Run
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was injured in a hit and run in Belfast over the weekend. Reports of the collision on the Springfield Road in the west of the city emerged at around 1.50am on Sunday 19 May. The male, aged in his forties, had been struck by a silver-coloured car.

An SDLP Councillor is set to propose the establishment of a working group on climate change for Belfast City Council. A representative for the Lisnasharragh DEA in east Belfast, Séamus de Faoite hopes the committee will work to tackle the city's impact on the climate crisis and protect citizens from the effects of climate breakdown.

Pair Charged Over Taxi Robbery
A man and woman have been charged after a taxi driver was robbed at knifepoint in Belfast. The incident happened in the Shankill Road area of the city in the early hours of Monday morning, 20 May. The perpetrators fled the scene on foot after the robbery and were caught shortly after by responding police.
