Local Store Wins Best BIRW Window Display Competition

A South Belfast store has beaten off stiff competition from others in the city to win the title of Best Visual Merchandising Display, as part of Belfast Independent Retail Week.

More than 160 local shops signed up for the first ever BIRW from 5-11 March, organised by Belfast City Council, to celebrate the uniqueness and quality of the city’s independent retailers. BIRW also aimed to promote fine neighbourhood shopping across the city.

Honey on the Lisburn Road - a boutique specialising in lingerie, shoes, handbags, jewellery and other accessories - took the top prize. The other two finalists in the competition were Arcadia Delicatessen, also on the Lisburn Road and Equinox Design Store and Cafe in Howard Street, in the city centre. 66 stores from across the city took part in the competition.

Judges praised Honey for the creativity of their window display.

"While the majority of independents solely used their brand to create their displays, Honey effectively used their range of shoes, lingerie and handbags to showcase what they offer in a really high impact way. They applied their creativity and knowledge of what is attractive to their customers to maximum effect," they said.

Congratulating everyone who took part in BIRW and the Visual Merchandising Display competition, Alderman Christopher Stalford, Chairman of Belfast City Council`s Development Committee, said: "Well done to Honey and finalists’ Equinox and Arcadia in the Visual Merchandising Display competition! We are delighted that so many local independent retailers joined us in promoting this sector across the city through BIRW.

"I think it is recognition of the work the council is doing in these difficult economic times to help support small and unique businesses in our city. They are the backbone of our economy, they're what differentiate one city from another and they provide vital services to local communities."

Council Intensify Efforts To Keep City Centre Open For Business
