Stormont Tricolour Flag Debated

A Northern Ireland committee are to debate whether Ireland's flag should be flown outside Stormont. According to an article in the Belfast Telegraph the Assembly Commission, which runs the Stormont estate, has agreed to discuss the issue. The Assembly Commission is comprised of one MLA from each of the five biggest political parties and is chaired by the Assembly Speaker Willie Hay. The rumored debate has received mixed reactions.

Man Injured During Shooting

A man has been shot in the leg on the outskirts of west Belfast. The 35-year-old was attacked as he walked through Glasvey Rise in the Twinbrook estate. The shooting happened shortly after 22:00 BST on Wednesday. He was taken to hospital where he was treated for injuries which are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

Woman Critical After Co. Antrim Car Crash

An 18-year-old woman is in critical condition in hospital following a crash in Co Antrim. A car and van collided on the Garron Road just outside Waterfoot on Wednesday afternoon. A man in his 70s, believed to have been the driver of a van involved in the incident, has been taken to hospital. His condition is not thought to be serious. The road was closed for a time but has since reopened.

Pensioner Killed In Care Home Fire, Named

The 81-year-old woman who died after a fire at a care home in west Belfast was Kathleen Fegan. Ms Fegan was critically injured in the fire at Owenvale Court on Springvale Road and died later in hospital.Three other people, including two members of staff, were treated for the effects of breathing in smoke. The fire happened just after 23:00 BST on Tuesday. Twenty residents were led to safety in a joint effort by care home and fire service staff. Police said the fire is believed to have been accidental.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Minister Condemns Attacks On Fire Crews
Attacks on fire crews place their lives in danger and put communities at risk, said Public Safety Minister Michael McGimpsey today. Condemning a further spate of attacks on firefighters in Dungannon and Londonderry over the weekend, the Minister said it was absolutely unacceptable for anyone to assault emergency workers.

Baby girl dies in road traffic accident
A child has been killed in a road traffic accident in Enniskillen. The baby girl, from the Republic of Ireland, was in a car with her two brothers, her childminder and her childminder's daughter, when it collided with a fire engine. The incident happened at around 11.20 am on the Derrylin Road in the town.
