Orange Order Awarded £900K Grant
The Orange Order has been awarded a grant totalling nearly £900K to allow them to address the aftermath or legacy of the Troubles in the Protestant community.
It has been revealed that the STRIPE Project (Stepping Towards Reconciliation in Positive Engagement) received £884,022 from the Special EU Programmes Body.
The money will fund a project aimed at marginalised Protestants living on the border or in interface areas across Ireland.
Funding will secure the project, based in Brownlow House in Lurgan, until December 2014 and will employ seven full-time staff.
William McKeown, Grand Treasurer of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland said the programme hopes to "allow the Protestant communities to become more comfortable in themselves and feel able to move forward with inter-community and cross-border reconciliation".
The money will come from the European Union's Peace III Programme.

BCC Welcomes Conviction Of Belfast Man For Dog Attack
Belfast City Council (BCC) has welcomed the conviction of a man at Belfast Magistrates Court for an offence involving a dog attack on a woman. BCC brought the prosecution against 43-year-old Stuart Grace, of Forthriver Crescent, Belfast, following a report that Mr Grace’s German Shepherd dog had attacked a woman, injuring her arm and back.

Govt Removal Of Money Intended For NI Schools 'Act Of Vandalism'
The Alliance Party has described the UK Government's reprofiling of money originally intended for integrated and shared schools has "an act of vandalism". The Strangford MLA and Education spokesperson, Nick Mathison, was speaking after the party raised the matter with Education Minister Paul Givan in the Assembly Chamber.

A total of £23.1 million has been lost to financial fraud in Northern Ireland in the last 13 months, according to the latest figures from Action Fraud. In the period before December 2022 and January 15 2024, the PSNI received 5,412 reports of fraud.
